About Me
- Christie
- Hi, I'm April Arms and I go by Christie. I'm hard of hearing and I use American Sign Language as first language and speaking English as second language. I’m self-taught second generation artist, a wife, and a mother to my first child who is 2 years old now. I earned my Associate degree in Art at the Tyler Junior College in 2004. During my time as a student in Tyler Junior College, I have been working as a professional artist. In 2002, I started doing the Murals in TJC's (Tyler Junior College) Tutor's loft, Luby's restaurant, and painted prices on Crown car dealership vehicles' windshield. I just recently did the mural for this TJC client's little son's room. I started selling on eBay in 2005 after graduating from Tyler Junior College. So now it been 7 years and still love to be able to do what I love for a living as an artist! I have enjoyed sharing my paintings with people in local area. Now I want to experience what it likes to share my paintings in networks.

1st comission project will be.....
The first comission I'm working is her grandparents photo to be painting with oil on 20X16 stretched canvas. She want it as a christmas gift to her father. That was nice of her. She also told me that her father like pictures to be paintings and love how different arttists' portrait paintings uniques. I feel good about that to know he might not be to picking about my work when he see mine in christmas.
She want it to be painting on 20X16 stretched canvas with light gray background and grandparents' full bodies on it from their feet to heads. This will be my first time to paint full bodies instead of headshots. I hope I can do this and I'm sure I can. It just that I haven't done portrait paintings for a long time because I been doing the portrait sketchings with charcoal. I kinda feel like little rusty, but I can do it. I'm not going to let it scare me. lol
Right now, since she requested it to be use with oil instead of acrylic paints, I'm waiting for the background to be dry before I start adding the grandparents' bodies on it and detail it to finish. I started painted the background 2 days ago (11/5/09). I told her the oils take longer to dry than acrylic paints, once it finish, she gonna have to give it a least a week or 2 to let it dry completely before I ship it to her. I told her not to worry and she'll have it before christmas. She live in New Jersey and that be interesting to see how I'm going to ship this stretched canvas 20X16 to New Jersey from Texas. This will be my first time to ship something bigger than 11X14 canvas! I hope nothing go wrong during the shipping time.
Hopefully the background will be dry tomorrow or next day. I'm looking forward to work on it and see how it come out when it finish!
